Prematurity awareness day

Today is world prematurity awareness day. Being a preemie mom changes you.You are put through mommy boot camp (which I think ALL parents need), you know the importance of  a routine and being prepared for anything. You know your child's current weight, complete medical history and medications by heart. You have to worry if insurance will pick them up for a round of synagis shots to protect them from RSV. You worry about daycare and being out in public (especially in the winter). You have to worry about strong scents and if it will affect your babies' tiny lungs. The list goes on and on.
The Twins were born at 34.6 weeks. A was not thriving and they believed that she had a whole list of problems. It turns out they had a twin-to-twin transfer and J was getting all the food and not sharing with A. She has a multi-cystic kidney, a bicuspid heart valve (which doctor says looks good), and a fussy eater. They both are developmentally on task, and keeping this momma on her toes! When we started the adoption process we never imagined it would have gone the way it did. 1 scam artist (karma is going to catch up with her), and one young girl that changed her mind at the last possible moment. We didn't know it then, but God had better, bigger, plans for us. We had to go through those trials to get strong enough for what was ahead. The hospital visits, the feeding issues, the oxygen, the G-Tube, dealing with twins in general. All of it. My children have made me stronger, and I believe a better mother.
